They should just make the materials in the traders be infinite and then hoarding is a waste of time. The point was never to create an economy, it was to create a game that is enjoyable to play.

Well, obviously, when a.net updates the game with certain things. Everyone does complain. They complain to make it suit themselves. The prices were reset, good, it helps the people who couldn't afford anything now affordable. If you havent noticed the prices of almost everything was jacked up. Silver dye for almost 12k? Honestly, who in the world would spend that much? When the prices long ago was only 600 gold per silver. Black was 4k.. now? 24k+ You just need to realize something, ITS A GAME! You can't expect everything to go right for you. The game is not your life. Big deal. You missed out. That just sucks to be you. Obviously, the people who missed out on this, are the ones who are complaining the most.
Items, weapons and runes have gone sky high as well. Weapons going up to 75k! There weapons that totally suck, and the person selling it, will probably try to sell you out, scam you, your just make you a total idiot. Just face it, the reset was good in a way. And the people who lucked out. Sorry. But get it down, guildwars is a GAME its nothing that involves you using your real money on buying GW gold to get your items/weapons/runes.

i missed out, and dont really care! because like most sane people here state, its a game. i had bought purple dye with all intentions of dying my armor. but then i saw the price jumped up to 3k! i held it, to sell it and make some quick $. log on yesterday and i could get 150 for it. same deal with materials, i salvage till i am maxed out, and sell them. as soon as i am maxed. i dont hold until the prices go high!
that really made no sense. sorry........

I get the feeling that this game will be well dead within the next few weeks because of this change.

I dont know I hope not. They need to do something fast tho- because no one is selling their stuff to the merchants as planned. I went to buy parchment and couldnt get any, super runes are all sold out too, and the asking price for say, monk protection went from 5k to 20k in three hours.

Yes. A handful of people gaining Gold, the most meaningless and useless commodity in Guild Wars, will surely spell the end of this game. Hell, I bet half the playerbase doesn't even know this happened.
Brilliance. Sheer brilliance.

Umm... I don't know what happened. Could someone tell me in plain terms what this thread is about?
What did I miss that has so many people in an uproar?

First off, in response to the title of this thread, that's ludicrious. GWars isn't particularly gear-based, so no matter how badly the economy gyrates it doesn't have much effect on the kill/gain exp/level/repeat cycle of a character's life.
Now, as to the subject of GWars economy, the problem as I see it is that the ANet team is trying to create a 'real' economy (i.e. a dynamic non-linear entity based in part (or whole) on supply and demand) as opposed to a 'static' economy (e.g. red dye always sells for 300 and always is bought for 200). The problem is, as anyone who deals with non-linear equations can tell you, these types of systems are inherently unstable (the current value doesn't enable you to predict the next value). To add fuel to the fire, you also have human traders each using their own wetware (*wink*) to determine their pricing schemes for the same items, and their prices are variable to the point of where you might as well call them random.
The human traders ANet can't do anything about, but the store traders -are- under their control. They simply have to decide: do they want store traders to have wildly fluctuating prices or not? If they choose to try to code in a market economy I think they'll find that it will be a real headache, requiring constant tweaking to make sure it doesn't generate ludicrous values. Probably simpler just to have a static economy for the NPCs and then let the players buy/sell in the background with a 'what the market will bear' pricing strategy.

For the record, screw RYL. The GMs are assholes, will not help you with problems, in fact one actually told me to f*** off when I asked him something. The customer support is absolutely horrible, the game is glitchy and still may as well be in beta stage, it has nothing to do with skill and is entirely higher lvl will always win. RYL USED to be good, when it was in it's original form. Then they changed it into a shittier, laggier game. PvP in that game is pretty fun though if you can compete because there's actually wars going on.

What does a lot of money in this game buy you? For 90k you can buy yourself an upgrade in absorbtion (from major to superior). Is that going to make you win more PvP battles or get you through the Ring of Fire faster? Nope. They seem to have capped prices on items with the update yesterday so that inflation won't run rampant and those who play the game how it was meant to will still have a spitting chance to attain a Superior Vigor.
Do you think Anet is retarded and didn't realize they would have inflation, ebay gold buyers, and heavy farmers? Of course they did. "Godly" in this game means +3 energy and a tad more damage. So basically "Godly" means expensive.
This is game relies more on skill than the time and in-game cash you can put into it. For those who played stock market with the game update yesterday or buy ebay gold, congratulations you have a plethora of worthless money. Now go buy that pretty Fissure armor, dye it black, add a crystalline sword and eternal shield so I can pick you out first with my Air Spiker in the competition arenas.

The way to fix this should have been the GRADUAL trader price reduction. Not skyrocketing it one way or another. Because then you create a crash or a bubble and we know what happens in each situation.
I have a ton of ecto and I'm not interested in the 15k armor. Will I profit off it? Yes. Do I horde it? No. Will I make a huge profit off it? No.
Unfortunetly, prices rising sharply and falling sharply only profits the very wealthy players and guilds.
Its nice to see though that most of the topics of convo have moved from nerfing a ranger skill that some 1337 players aren't good enough to beat to the state of the economy .

A.Net made some changes to the economy yesterday to stabilize the prices away from the 35K black dyes and other such high priced items, but in doing so, the patch reseted all the prices of all items to like 100G each. Yes, even the ectoplasms. So a very select few were online at this moment and hoarded all the superior runes and ectos until the merchant had no more. Those same select people can now sell those ectos for at least 9K. Maybe not 9K, I've seen some people try to sell ectos at 20K each and other hoarders rallied with this person because they believe if the merchant is always sold out then the people will eventually give in and pay this extremly high price.
That pretty much sums it up I think, I missed an oppurtunity in this, but I wouldn't have hoarded the items, just would of bought my ectos and shards just for FoW armour.
Well........ WTB 120 Ectos for 3000g each!

I just wanted to buy a Sup Healing and Sup Divine Favor rune for my poor monk to pve with. If I constantly click on the rune trader, I will see one for sale every 4th-5th try for only 1k-3k or so, but in the time it takes me to scroll down and click on it and click Request quote, some other sob has already snapped it up and I am told it is not available. So I am screwed unless I want to pay the hoarder's price of 20k+ for something the Rune Trader is selling for 2k. Grrr. I guess I have to putter along with my minor runes and hope that after a week or so, the hoarders will be unable to buy the runes as fast as new ones are found and sold to the trader. Time will tell. I sure wish I had been online when the update went through..
